Alright, you probably want to hear me talk about how I meditate for 2 hours, then touch my toes to my ears to make sure I am at peace, and then how I go for a 23-mile run since it is better than 22 miles, and how I maximize morning hours so I can escape the 9-5 to become a supernatural being of absolute productivity.
Holy shit, I felt I was going to throw up there for a second. Frankly, we look at morning routines because they sound nice, and we think it is one of the "top secrets of success" that led to some entrepreneurs' and or creative people's perfect achievements.
This is all fine and dandy but I think at the core for many people it is simply mental masturbation.
I don't have a problem with people posting morning routines or having them in general. On the contrary, I think having some level of a morning routine is great, just not to the extravagant extent that we see online.
What Works For Me And You
What works for me, may not work for you. Simple as that. I think many share morning routines simply because others have asked and are simply curious. Or perhaps they want to know how to live like someone they watch. All of which I think is perfectly fine.
I think the problem starts with expectations.
When we see a "morning routine" of someone sharing their whole day it leaves us scratching our heads as to what they actually do all day. Or my favorite showboating how great their life is and then realizing it was all an AD for a new product they are launching.
It's all a lot of fluff with no real substance or perhaps even truth to that matter. At the end of the day, I think morning routine videos were simply a trend made for entertainment and clicks. I don't think it is something we should take too much stock in, as otherwise, we may lose stock in our own sanity.
Consistency: The Thing That Works
I've found that in my own life as well as the lives of people I know or even after studying the ultra-successful people, the only thing that sticks seems to be consistency.
As long as you are consistent in some shape or form you will be better off than trying to do something new every morning. Adaptability and change are nice, but we are creatures of habit, so building good habits in the morning can serve us quite well in the long run.
Find what choices and habits best serve you in the long run, as well as your day-to-day living, and stick to it.
I think there are a few items that are constants for everyone like not wasting time in the morning, or basic hygienic processes like showering (please, have mercy on the rest of us).
Overall, everyone's process will differ slightly at the very least, so take what is useful from these types of videos, and toss the rest of the "advice" out the window.
Rules To Follow
I think people in general like being told the perfect morning routine or some rules for life as it takes some of the accountability off their shoulders as it's not "their morning routine" so if they mess up they can blame someone else.
It's a bit harder to find the routine that suits you. And I think that's the point. I think everyone's routine is going to be a little different, and that's the point. It's David Goggins' morning routine, it's Joe Rogan's morning routine, it's Entrepreneurs XYZ's morning routine. It's what works for them.
You can always take advice from them, or incorporate the morning routine into your own. The most important part people miss is that it should be the routine that best serves them. If that is someone else's routine then great. But I think for most people if we are going to use the routines of others, then we will have to adapt them significantly to see actual productivity and usefulness.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go film my morning routine to sell my new top-of-the-line fragrance which you can buy for only the small limited-time price of your house.
